IATSE announces two latest actions in drive toward inclusion

NEW YORK, NY — In our continued drive to increase inclusion and diversity within our community and union, we are announcing two specific actions.

The first is reconstitution and expansion of our International Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. The Committee already held their first meeting on September 29, and will be meeting frequently going forward. During the invitation process, special care was taken to ensure the invitees as a group represented a cross section of the Union.

The second is our partnership with Right Size Media, a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion consulting firm that works within media and entertainment. The mission and purpose of Right Size Media is to help make the creative process more inclusive. The Right Size Media team has decades of experience working across the entire ecosystem of production, including the guilds and unions.

Both groups will work in tandem to identify and prioritize concrete steps that the Union can take to move aggressively toward the anti-racist goals we have committed to publicly.

“It’s time the conversation turns to action. Real, measurable change that removes all barriers against self-fulfillment and full potential, against the rewards to us all of full and equal participation. It will be difficult, uncomfortable at times and involve sacrifice. But none so great as those faced each day by being oppressed by an unjust system.” Said IATSE International President Matthew D. Loeb in the union’s quarterly bulletin.

We thank our members, and the professional community which we support, for their continued support. We are a great Union. And we know we can be a better union.
